News - Leading in Tough Times Seminar Heralds Launch of the Cornwall Enterprise Institute

A special workshop that will bring together the psychological aspects of leadership with the experiences of world class yachtsman Pete Goss MBE, is set to be held in Cornwall next month.

'Leading in Tough Times' will look at the importance of creating the right mindset to survive the current economic climate and is aimed at senior business and public sector leaders in the region.
It will provide a 'mental toolkit' for people to use in stressful circumstances, and showcase key skills including how to develop a personal resilience to pressure, and how to turn challenging situations to your advantage.

The event is being delivered by the University of Plymouth through its membership of the Combined Universities in Cornwall. Professor John Potter, who works with both its Business School faculty and Research and Enterprise directorate, will be hosting, and taking part in a question and answer session with Pete Goss, who is himself a successful entrepreneur.

And the seminar heralds the imminent launch of the Cornwall Enterprise Institute - a joint venture between the University and Cornwall College, which will champion the development of "economic dynamism" by harnessing enterprise and entrepreneurship talent in the county.

Professor Potter said: "Leading in Tough Times is the perfect precursor to the launch of the Cornwall Enterprise Institute. We need to develop higher level leadership, management and enterprise skills and knowledge if we are to help lead the economic and social transformation of Cornwall.

"We have to focus on equipping business and individuals with the skills to compete effectively in today's global economy, and we can do that by creating this unique network in the county."

Leading in Tough Times will be held on Wednesday 8 December, from 3.30pm until 9.00pm, in the Trevithick Suite of the Pool Innovation Centre.

In addition to the Q&A, there will be keynote sessions delivered by Professor Potter and Pete Goss, and two networking sessions for the delegates.
