News - Zoological Expeditions Course

Cornwall College press release

The Zoological Expeditions Certificate in Higher Education is studied in week long blocks throughout the year allowing those in employment to gain a qualification and see more of the world while doing so.

Angie Nash, Lecturer, said: "The course is designed for those who have an interest in adventure and who also have a strong passion for ensuring the continued conservation of the planet. Over one or two years, students will develop the skills necessary to safely plan, manage and carry out an expedition and collect valuable scientific data relating to zoology and the natural world. The destinations that the group chooses to explore are limitless."

Having already tracked polar bears in the Arctic, gained survival skills in the Kalahari Desert, Namibia and tracked wildlife through the deep jungle of Borneo, Angie is well equipped to teach the course.

"Having experienced my own expeditions I am really excited about running this course for other people. As well as studying relevant first aid skills, health and safety, fundraising, survival skills, survey and monitoring techniques, media (film and photography) and presentation skills, part of the course will also be designed to help local communities monitor and conserve their local wildlife, so it's about giving something back as well as having a great adventure."

Dave Linnell OBE, Principal of Cornwall College said: "The Zoological Expeditions Certificate of Higher Education, which is approved by the University of Plymouth, is a fantastic course and will sit really well alongside the other animal and conservation based courses at Newquay."

All undergraduate courses at Cornwall College are approved by the University of Plymouth.
