University College Falmouth press release

If you're interested in owning a unique piece of photography taken by some of the world's leading photographers, then head to University College Falmouth's Woodlane Campus on Wednesday 5 March at 7pm when bidding will begin.

The fundraising auction is the brain-child of final year students on the BA(Hons) Photography course.  Their aim is to raise enough money from the auction of the prints to enable them to hold their final year exhibition at Free Range, London in June this year.

The students decided that as well as auctioning their own work, they would also contact such eminent photographers as John Wright; who has donated a signed picture of the cast of Channel 4's 'Shameless'; Brian Griffin, photographer, poet and performance artist and best known for his faintly surreal portraits of businessmen taken for 'Management Today'; Gina Glover who is a co-founder of the Photofusion Photography Centre in London and whose recent work focuses on our relationship with nature; Sian Bonnell, who works using found objects and household articles, placing them out of context within the rural and coastal environment or constructing landscapes in the studio and has donated her print 'Silver Sea' and world-renowned photographer, Rankin, portrait and fashion photographer who co-founded the magazine 'Dazed and Confused', his own quarterly fashion magazine 'Rank' as well as a photographic book imprint 'Vision On'.

"We really wanted to be able to take our final work to London and showcase it at Free Range, London's biggest graduate art and design show where thousands of the industry's top talent scouts are on the look out for the next Tracey Emin or Rankin" explained Lorna Newman, final year student.

Free Range was set up to showcase the works of budding designers and artists to both public and potential employers alike, giving students the best opportunity to promote their work. Each year the show has increased in size and popularity, making it a destination point for thousands of Londoners and lovers of visual arts. Over 100,000 people visited this free-entry show last year, putting it in the same league as The Royal Academy of Arts or the Victoria & Albert Museum.

For those unable to attend the auction in person all is not lost! Bidding online for these rare pieces of print is available by visiting http://www.falmouthphotographyauction.co.uk or you can place a maximum bid or organise a telephone bid by emailing newman_lorna@yahoo.co.uk.
