News - Trail Blazing Graduates Return

University College Falmouth press release

Ten former BA(Hons) Graphic Design students from University College Falmouth recently returned to the College's Woodlane Campus to mentor Level 3 students in employability, drawing on their own unprecedented success in gaining employment at top London design agencies such as Pentagram, Rudd Studio, Design Bridge and Jones Knowles Ritchie.

As well as answering questions on a variety of subjects ranging from how to conduct themselves at interviews to job seeking and flat-hunting, there were also visual presentations by Luke Stenzhorn and Richard Davies who graduated in 2006 relating to some 'top tips' or 'do's and don'ts' - including how to write a CV and supporting letter, maintaining effective email contact, the value of the Royal Society of Arts and D&AD show case events, portfolios, the 'Falmouth network in London' and the need for drive in the face of knock backs. The presentations continued with examples of work they have been involved in at their respective design companies (Dare and Rudd Studio).

This was then followed by a question time session with all the graduates and an audience of level 1, 2 and 3 students and staff, chaired by Jon Unwin, Course Leader for BA(Hons) Graphic Design. "This was a fantastic opportunity for current students to gain first-hand knowledge of what to expect following graduation in the real world of design and how best to secure your dream job in our competitive industry," said Jon.

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education. The CUC is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
