Is the Government doing enough to support developments in wind, solar and wave power? Do the new EU targets offer an opportunity for us to put the South West at the forefront of renewable energy technology? What does this mean for our future energy supply? All this will be discussed at a free lecture, open to everyone, on the Tremough Campus, Penryn, on Thursday 28 August.
A series of monthly public lectures organised by the Geography Department of the University of Exeter is bringing local people together with leading experts on issues facing our planet. In the latest event in this series, which is taking place on the University's Exeter and Cornwall campuses, Dr Bridget Woodman will give her expert view of the state of the UK's renewable energy policy.
Dr Bridget Woodman, Lecturer in Energy Policy on the University of Exeter's Tremough Campus said: "The UK Government has claimed international leadership on addressing climate change. Yet it has consistently failed to deliver carbon reduction targets or encourage the widespread implementation of low carbon renewable technologies. This is not a failure of technologies but rather a government failure to create a political and business environment in which they can be deployed effectively."
