News - new digital animation course

University College Falmouth press release

Award-winning animation director, Andy Wyatt, has been recruited to head up University College Falmouth's new BA(Hons) degree in Digital Animation.

His appointment comes as part of a multi-million pound expansion of the highly-respected Media Centre at University College Falmouth's Tremough Campus, which will see the opening of a specialist animation studio and its first cohort of students arrive this September.

Andy brings to Falmouth over twenty years' experience of animation production.  He has worked as  an animator on several television series including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and created Beastly Behaviour for Channel 4.  He has also been creative director of Fictitious Egg in Bristol and a series director at Aardman Animations.

Students will graduate from the three-year course with a portfolio of short animated films; and a range of skills in animation design and storyboarding; in voice-over and soundtrack production; in collaborative working; in budget management; and in the processes of producing animated films.  They will also be able to underpin their creative practice with critical theory and a thorough understanding of the history and evolution of animation techniques.

"I am delighted to be joining University College Falmouth at this exciting time in its evolution, and look forward to preparing students for careers in this dynamic industry," explained Andy.  "This course will complement and draw from Falmouth's existing portfolio of successful courses in art, design and media, given its emphasis on core skills such as life drawing, but it will also lead the way in terms of cutting-edge technologies and industry input," he added.

University College Falmouth is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall, a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through higher education.  The CUC is funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall County Council.
