News - Students Film Oyster Festival 2007

University College Falmouth press release

University College Falmouth are sponsoring Falmouth's Oyster Festival again this year, with Alan Barnes' team of media students filming and broadcasting the cookery demonstrations live onto the big screen.

Seven students from BA(Hons) Film Studies and BA(Hons) Broadcasting will film TV cook Clarissa Dickson Wright's master class which launches the Festival, followed by a packed programme of cookery demonstrations by leading local chefs throughout the popular, four-day event.  Alan Barnes, who is University College Falmouth's Media Resources Manager said: "This provides the students with an invaluable real-life experience in that they will be working absolutely live, in front of a large audience.  University College Falmouth prides itself on preparing students for the world of work, and it doesn't get more real than this!"

"The students will also be filming Falmouth's own version of 'Ready Steady Cook' on the Fridav evening at which Lusty Glaze chef, Nick Hodges will compete against Arty Williams from the Cove, and they are really looking forward to capturing the action in such a dynamic, fast-paced environment," Alan added.

The College has also sponsored an exhibition of BA(Hons) Press Photography Course Leader Mal Stone's evocative photographs of Falmouth's oystermen at work.

Falmouth has one of the last remaining traditional oyster fisheries.  The Oyster Festival celebrates the start of the oyster season and the diversity and quality of Cornish seafood.
The Festival runs from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 October 2007.  For full details of the programme and further information, visit http://www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk
