New CUC Business Support Manager
Combined Universities in Cornwall press release
Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) has strengthened its commitment to business with the appointment of Marian Bond in the role of Business Support Manager. Marian will support the six universities and colleges that make up the CUC partnership in their ongoing mission to help Cornwall's businesses prosper through access to new knowledge, specialist expertise and world class facilities.
Marian was brought up in St. Neot and has worked in senior management roles for small and medium sized businesses in the engineering, publishing, distribution and retail industries. Returning to the county in 2008, Marian most recently worked as maternity cover Inward Investment Manager for Cornwall Pure Business, an Objective One and Cornwall County Council funded project which helped some 127 businesses to relocate to Cornwall.
CUC Director, Dr. Sue Brownlow welcomed the appointment, commenting, "The relationship between higher education and business is a top priority for CUC so I am delighted that we have someone with Marian's tremendous experience and enthusiasm in this key role. Between them our partner universities and colleges represent a phenomenal resource for Cornwall's businesses. Working closely with Business Link and other partners, Marian will help ensure that businesses are able to tap into this wealth of expertise and support."
Marian Bond said, "I am thrilled to be joining CUC at such an exciting time for the partnership. I have had a great deal of contact with higher education from my time in the publishing industry, but most of my career has been spent building businesses in the private sector, so I know that these two worlds have a great deal to offer one another. I am looking forward to building relationships with our partners and to helping Cornwall's businesses to benefit from the investment made in higher education in recent years."
Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: "This appointment will encourage better links between academia and our businesses. Part of the key to strengthening our economy is ensuring businesses can benefit from the fresh knowledge, research and development opportunities and graduates that the CUC offers."
The Business Support Manager post is funded with European Regional Development Fund investment as part of the Convergence programme for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with match funding provided by the Combined Universities in Cornwall partner universities and colleges.
