Truro College Student Wins Competition

Truro College press release

Jacob Cockle, a Higher Education student from Truro College has won a Times Travel Photography competition.  Jacob has won a fantastic prize of an all expenses paid trip to Budapest as a weekly and monthly winner of the newspaper's photography competition.

The image that Jacob had entered was of two friends body boarding on a massive wave at Skilly beach, near Penzance in Cornwall.  The image also received a large amount of attention from a range of publications including the national press.  Jacob is studying the Foundation Degree in Action Photography so the image was a perfect opportunity to test the skills he has learnt and to show his talent as a photographer.

To add to this Jacob has also won a National Geographic adventure image competition and more recently a British Youth Council photography competition where images entered were examples of what inspired the photographer.  The prize was two weeks work experience at GQ magazine and was presented at Westminster. He is also in the running  for Digital Camera magazines World Wide Photographer of the Year.

Not content with his success Jacob has become the recipient of the City of London Bursary Fund.  The fund 'aims to help young people who have demonstrated the desire and capability to accomplish great things in Higher Education' and is administered through the Cornwall Community Foundation.

If you are interested in Jacob's work he is holding an exhibition along with other photographers entitled 'Island of Dogs' at the PZ Gallery in Penzance, Cornwall from the 19th to 30th of December.
