Students Raise Funds for ACE

Penwith College press release

On Thursday 6th December over 300 Penwith College students gathered together for a student association presentation of a cheque to the charity ACE. Rosie Read the student governor had invited everyone to attend to show their support to the great cause for which the students have been fundraising for some time through their student parties and other activities. Rosie also invited the Manager of Club 2K to attend to thank them for the support that they have given the Student Association in raising funds, having given a generous donation to the college and also for supporting the students fundraising parties.

Angela Peake, who set up and runs the charity ACE spoke at some length about the projects that the charity is involved in and how the funds raised will benefit the people in Africa. Her video presentation was inspirational and brought home to the students how lucky they all are and how much they take for granted. Charlotte Nicholls, a student from the College who has visited some of the ACE projects in Africa spoke about her experiences with the charity and the time she spent teaching in one of the local schools.

Thanks were given to the team at Club 2K who have been supporting the students in their efforts this year. A cake, made by Vashti, a student who hopes to open her own catering business, was presented to Mark, the manager of club 2K as a small gesture of thanks. A cheque for £1000 was presented to Angela Peake by Charlotte Nicholls, with the promise to continue the College's efforts to support such a worthwhile cause.

This presentation had an overwhelming effect on a group of 6 Public Services students from the college, who, after the presentation, offered their help and support on the next trip to Uganda. They hope to be able, not only to see the great work that has been undertaken already, but also to undertake some of the manual project work involved themselves. The students are currently in talks with ACE about funding the trip and hope that everyone in the community will support their efforts to raise the funds for this worthwhile trip.

David Gibson, Acting Principal said, "I am delighted to have had Angela here representing her charity ACE. The work that they do is phenomenal and something that our students are very passionate about. I am pleased that the student association decided to make this donation, our students are a great example to other young people in the area and have shown great enterprise in raising these funds."
