Sustainable Construction

CUC partners offer a full range of R&D, professional services and access to skills in reducing the environmental impact of buildings over their lifetime, whilst optimizing economic viability, comfort and safety.

This is complemented by a growing number of eco design, construction and renewable energy companies in Cornwall, the Eco-town project and specialist groups – Cornwall Sustainable Buildings Trust (CBST)and South West Energy & Environment Group (SWEEG).

 

 

Eco-Bos

The  Eco-Bos proposals will create one of the most sustainable new communities in Europe, by re-developing former china clay sites in Mid Cornwall, owned by Imerys Minerals to provide new homes, new jobs, a sustainable transport infrastructure, utilise renewable energies and provide leisure facilities and green space.

Centre of Energy & Environment

The Centre of Energy & Environment based at University of Exeter’s Streatham campus has a longstanding reputation in research in low carbon building design and modelling, providing services in compliance and performance assessment and acoustic design and modelling. They have conducted an Energy Auditing Project for Cornwall Council to reduce emissions in schools. University of Exeter, Cornwall campus leads in Renewable Energy giving ready access to graduate talent for businesses.

Cornwall College

Cornwall College offers FdSc level courses, accredited by University of Plymouth in sustainable construction which supports jobs such as Construction Manage, Site Agent, Architectural Technologist, Building Project Manager, Construction Estimator, Energy Conservation Officer, Environmental Consultant, Planning Engineering and Quality Assurance Manager, besides providing complementary and support trades from construction, mechanical and electrical engineering and university level courses in renewable energy, carbon management and planning for energy

These provide your business with the practical skills to implement strategies and development projects.

Plymouth University

Plymouth University’s School of Architecture, Design & Environment offers environmental building, sustainable design, construction, cost and project management, progression for Cornwall College based courses and research and development in the impact of climate change on materials properties, in situ thermal measurement of building materials, construction and development and testing of new materials. Complementary expertise is available in civil engineering. Researchers have worked with the Eden Project, the MOD and a Cornish based eco-builder on R&D projects.
